Contenuto: Showdown! è un album blues collaborativodei chitarristi Albert Collins , Robert Cray e Johnny Copeland, pubblicato nel 1985 tramite Alligator Records. L’album è per lo più materiale originale, con cover di canzoni comeT-Bone Shuffle di T -Bone Walker, She’s into Something di Muddy Waters e Blackjack di Ray Charles. Collins, Cray e Copeland furono supportati da Johnny B. Gayden e Allen Batts, che all’epoca erano membri degli Icebreakers di Collins, e dall’artista di famiglia di Alligator Casey Jones. Nelle note di copertina dell’album, i produttori Bruce Iglauer e Dick Shurman scrissero che Copeland e Cray furono entrambi supportati da Collins all’inizio della loro carriera, e come i tre musicisti si incrociarono spesso da allora, rendendo questo sforzo collaborativo un progetto in divenire da trent’anni. Showdown! è stato uno degli album di maggior successo degli Alligator, raggiungendo il 124° posto nelle classifiche statunitensi e vendendo oltre 175.000 unità in tutto il mondo. L’album ha vinto un Grammy Award per la migliore registrazione blues tradizionale nel 1986. È stato ripubblicato su CD da Alligator nel 2011. [...]. Autore: - Albert Collins (Leona, 1º ottobre 1932 – Las Vegas, 24 novembre 1993) è stato un chitarrista, cantante e musicista blues statunitense. Conosciuto con diversi soprannomi (The Iceman, The Master of Telecaster, The Razor Blade) Albert Collins, nacque a Leona in Texas, lontano parente di un altro grande bluesman : Lightnin’ Hopkins, e come quest’ultimo crebbe imparando a suonare la chitarra. Con la sua famiglia si trasferì a Houston sempre in Texas all’età di sette anni e tra gli anni quaranta e cinquanta assorbì gli stilemi della musica blues. [...].
