Contenuto: In Search of the Mystery è l’album di debutto del sassofonista Gato Barbieri. Fu registrato a New York City il 15 marzo 1967 e fu pubblicato più tardi quell’anno dalla ESP-Disk. Nell’album, Barbieri è affiancato dal violoncellista Calo Scott, dal bassista Norris Jones e dal batterista Bobby Kapp. [...]. In una recensione per AllMusic, Michael G. Nastos ha scritto: Mentre gli archi nuotano intorno ai ritmi di Kapp, Barbieri si tuffa senza paura del risultato, consentendo agli altri di estendersi in arene armoniche e sonore di loro scelta. Considerato l’iniziatore del musical statunitense, la sua opera spazia dalla musica colta al jazz. [...]. Le composizioni di Gershwin hanno attraversato i generi blues e musica classica, e le sue melodie più popolari sono ampiamente conosciute. Tra le sue opere più note ci sono le composizioni orchestrali Rapsodia in blu (1924) e Un americano a Parigi (1928), così come l’opera Porgy and Bess (1935). [...]. Contenuto: Insieme a BB King, John Lee Hooker è stato probabilmente il bluesman più famoso e di successo della storia. Durante una carriera attiva durata più di 50 anni, Hooker è riuscito a sfornare successi da milioni di copie vendute a entrambe le estremità della sua illustre carriera, durante la quale il suo blues ha coperto tutti gli aspetti dell’esperienza blues. Insieme a artisti del calibro di T-Bone Walker, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Lightnin’ Hopkins e BB King, John Lee Hooker ha in gran parte creato il blues elettrico del dopoguerra e ha lasciato un segno indelebile su di esso. Nessuno ha mai suonato come John Lee Hooker, il suo è stato uno dei suoni del XX secolo.

Che affare. 10 dischi di John Lee Hooker a un prezzo incredibile. Nel complesso, il suono è molto buono, con alcune canzoni nei primi due dischi che suonano davvero ruvide. I primi 8 dischi sono dei primi Hooker solisti con occasionali chitarre o piano di accompagnamento. Il disco 9 sembra registrazioni di Veejay e il 10° è un concerto dal vivo. Hooker menziona Lowell Fulsom e SP Leary, ma non c’è risposta dal vivo del pubblico. Bella roba, comunque. L’unico inconveniente è che non ci sono note di copertina. Ultimo di sei figli di Domenico, calzolaio e campanaro del duomo, ed Ester Magnaterra, mostrò sin da piccolissimo grandi attitudini per il canto, venendo accolto a sette anni nel Coro Pueri Cantores della cattedrale di Recanati. La povertà della famiglia lo costrinse a duri sacrifici, ma, tra un’occupazione e l’altra, riuscì a prendere lezioni di canto dal maestro Quirino Lazzarini, organista e direttore del coro della Santa Casa di Loreto. [...]. Seguirono presenze in alcuni dei maggiori teatri italiani (Palermo, Napoli, Genova, Catania, Costanzi di Roma), in opere come Manon, Tosca, Mefistofele, La favorita. [...]. Autore: Maria Callas, pseudonimo di Maria Anna Cecilia Sofia Kalos (New York, 2 dicembre 1923 – Parigi, 16 settembre 1977), è stata un soprano statunitense di origine greca, naturalizzata italiana e successivamente greca. Dotata di una voce dal timbro non omogeneo e di grande volume, Maria Callas ne sviluppò un magistrale controllo nonché una notevole estensione ed agilità, grazie alla formazione belcantistica ricevuta dal soprano Elvira de Hidalgo. Unito alla grande musicalità e natura drammatica, questo forte bagaglio tecnico la rese artefice della riscoperta del repertorio italiano della prima metà dell’Ottocento insieme ai direttori Tullio Serafin, Antonino Votto e Nicola Rescigno, in particolare di Vincenzo Bellini e Gaetano Donizetti. In seguito alle storiche riprese dei ruoli scritti per Maria Malibran e Giuditta Pasta, la critica reintrodusse il termine soprano drammatico d’agilità.
