The Big Brass Ring:

The story concerns the darker side of a political campaign trail in Missouri. A gubernatorial candidate, Blake Pellarin, is making a campaign stop in St. Louis when his old mentor, Kim Minnaker, resurfaces. Minnaker left the country after a scandal, but now is working on a memoir and evidently possesses compromising photos of Pellarin that could end his hopes of becoming governor and, beyond that, President of the United States.
Pellarin is already juggling the pressures of a political race with a frayed relationship with his wife, Dinah, a wealthy woman with a drinking problem, and an affair with Cela, a worldly journalist. He endeavors to learn what kind of blackmail Minnaker has in store for him, as well as how it could affect his political future and his family.

Phillips is unconvinced by Erskine’s claims that Rogers is the right person for the procedure but relents after seeing Rogers jump on a grenade to save his comrades, unaware that it is a test. Blackadder Goes Forth is set in 1917 on the Western Front in the trenches of World War I. Captain Edmund Blackadder (Rowan Atkinson) is a professional soldier in the British Army who, until the outbreak of the Great War, has enjoyed a relatively danger-free existence fighting natives who were usually two feet tall and armed with dried grass. Finding himself trapped in the trenches with another big push planned, his concern is to avoid being sent over the top to certain death. The series thus chronicles Blackadder’s attempts to escape the trenches through various schemes, most of which fail due to bad fortune, misunderstandings and the general incompetence of his comrades. The aforementioned comrades are his second-in-command, idealistic upper-class Edwardian twit Lieutenant George St Barleigh (Hugh Laurie) and their profoundly stupid but dogged batman Private S. Baldrick (Tony Robinson).
More than the Germans, who are generally unseen, Blackadder’s nemeses come in the form of his superior, the eccentric General Melchett (Stephen Fry) who rallies his troops from a French château 35 miles (56 km) from the front, and Melchett’s bureaucratic assistant, Captain Kevin Darling (Tim McInnerny). Despite the two being of equal rank, Blackadder treats Darling with contempt – while the former is on the front line, the latter is folding the general’s pyjamas. Their animosity is mutual, largely as a result of Blackadder exploiting the comic potential of Darling’s surname at every opportunity. Although Blackadder and Darling are both captains, Darling has seniority because he is a staff officer. This is signified by the red tabs on the collar of his uniform and the red band on his service cap.

Described as the first ever comprehensive series on the natural history of the world’s oceans, each of the eight 50-minute episodes examines a different aspect of marine life. The underwater photography included creatures and behaviour that had previously never been filmed.

The series won a number of Emmy and BAFTA TV awards for its music and cinematography. The executive producer was Alastair Fothergill and the music was composed by George Fenton. Attenborough narrated this series before presenting the next in his ’Life’ series of programmes, The Life of Mammals (2002), and the same production team created Planet Earth (2006).
